Write a letter to the editor of your local paper

In addition to direct contact with our elected officials, one of the most effective ways to advocate for legislation is to submit letters to the editor in your local paper. Every elected official monitors these letters not only to ‘take the pulse’ of their constituents to get a feel for what issues are important to them, but also to watch for mentions of their own name – positive or negative.

As you may have seen on the homepage of our website the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission recently released a study showing the extent of the grid’s vulnerability to a range of threats, not just EMP. As we near the end of the 2010 legislative session it is imperative that we not lose the momentum gained by Congress’ unanimous passage of the GRID Act earlier this year. If we fail to pass this legislation in the Senate we will be sent back to square one and lose valuable time. Please consider submitting a letter to the editor to your local paper encouraging your Senators to vote for the GRID Act with EMP protections restored.

Please contact us at [email protected] to let us know that you would be interested in submitting a letter to the editor and we can guide you through the process. We can provide you with talking points from which you can write your own letter, or we can supply you with a draft letter that you can modify as you see fit.

I'm interested in sending a letter to the editor of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Can you provide me with a draft that might fit this year to get me started? thanks
