Curtis Birnbach

Curtis Birnbach, President & Chief Technology Officer, Advanced Fusion Systems LLC, has spent a lifetime in applied science in the areas of electromagnetics, optics, electro-optics, electron tubes, pulse power systems and fusion technology.

Mr. Birnbach is the inventor of the SAFiRe™, fusion power generation system, the EPS™ EMP protection system, FXI™ Flash X-ray Irradiator and other critical technologies that form the AFS intellectual property base. Mr. Birnbach is also president of Hudson Research, Inc., a subsidiary of AFS and is in charge of research, development, engineering and customer technical relations. There he invented the Milotron™ RF power tube, the Vircatron™ power oscillator tube, and developed a number of advanced pulse power systems for EMP generation and other military applications. At Hudson Research, he founded the Electro-optics Foundry, a private manufacturing facility for OEM production of electro-optical devices and systems. Hudson Research Inc. is an FDA registered and UL-Listed medical devices manufacturer.

Mr. Birnbach served seven years as Chairman of the Board, Senior Vice-president and Chief Scientist at Quantum Diagnostics Ltd., a public corporation. There he developed the Pulsatron™ high power triode, and the SXE™ X-ray laser. He also worked for several years as a director of research and development for Instrumentation Camera where he developed image processing techniques for medical diagnostic applications, as a product manager at Cooperheat, Inc., the world’s largest contract metallurgists, Director of General Engineering at Hypres Inc., and vice-president for N.J. Thermex Inc.

Over the past 30 years he has been issued 16 US patents and 5 foreign patents and has more than 8 patents pending. His work in electromagnetics, electron tube technology, optical computing, and heteroepitaxial ferroelectric thin-films is highly regarded. He is a speaker, author, consultant, and subject matter expert on these topics.
