On February 19, 2014 the Virginia Legislature passed a bill titled, “Geomagnetic disturbances & electromagnetic pulses; joint commission to study preventing damages.” The bill orders the Joint Commission on Technology and Science to study and determine Virginia’s exposure to the threats posed by geomagnetic storms and EMPs, develop a strategy to protect the state’s infrastructure from such threats, and report its findings to the legislature at the start of the 2015 session. Senate Joint Resolution 61 was introduced by Senator Bryce E. Reeves (R-17).
